The Very Reverend Archimandrite Michael Giavris
The Very Reverend Archimandrite Michael Giavris is a clergyman of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America serving in the Archdiocesan District. He was born in 1985 and was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, as well as the Peloponnesian city of Tripoli in Arcadia, Greece.
After his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois Chicago and Hellenic College from 2004 to 2008, he studied graduate level theology at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, graduating with a Master of Divinity in 2011. During his studies in Greece, he also completed a specialized program in Byzantine Music, earning a diploma and teaching license from the Central Music Conservatory of Thessaloniki in 2010.
In addition to his studies, he has served in the Office of the Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for six years, in the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s English Office under the Chief Secretariat for two years and, most recently, in the Office of the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America since his ordination to the diaconate on February 2, 2020.
On November 8, 2022, he was ordained to the priesthood and elevated to the rank (offikion) of Archimandrite. Since then, while continuing his work in the Office of the Archbishop, he simultaneously served as the Presiding Priest of the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George & Saint Demetrios located in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of East Harlem in New York City.
On June 16, 2026, he was assigned as the Presiding Priest of Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Brooklyn, New York.

Father Damaskinos has served the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese for 45 years as a devoted and honorable clergyman. Father Damaskinos, who was born in Greece, is a graduate of Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, in Brookline, Massachusetts, having earned both Master’s of Divinity and Master’s of Sacred Theology degrees, with specialization in Church and Byzantine history. His undergraduate degree is in education from the Teachers Pedagogical School in Thessaloniki, Greece. He also completed his post-graduate work at the Thessaloniki Theological School.
Father Damaskinos served at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Kingston, N.Y. from 1972 to 1974. From 1974 to 1978, he served the parish of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Jamaica, N.Y. He then went to Watertown, N.Y. where he served the parish of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church from 1978 to 1985.
In August of 1985, Father Damaskinos joined Kimisis Theotokou Brooklyn, and has successfully led our parish into the future. From 1998 to 1999, Father Damaskinos served as president of Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He then returned to Kimisis Theotokou to continue his pastoral duties. He has brought a wealth of administrative, pastoral and theological talent to Kimisis Theotokou, as well as significant fund-raising experience. To this day, Father Damaskinos Ganas continues to be the cornerstone of the Greek Orthodox community of Kimisis Theotokou in Brooklyn, N.Y.
